A Message from GCPPW Commissioner Jeremy Long

Fans, it's been a long road for GCPPW since our last show ended in July. Anyone who lives and works on the United States Gulf Coast knows the uncertainty of hurricane season. August to November is a very tense time for all of us as we watch weather reports from the Atlantic Ocean for any signs that a hurricane is headed our way. Unfortunately, this year was not a lucky year for us.

In August, Hurricane Gustav formed and made its way toward U.S. soil, eventually landing nearby in Louisiana. Port Neches, Texas, the city which primarily hosts GCPPW events, was spared but the evacuation of nearly one million residents of the Gulf Coast region, made running a professional wrestling show irrelevant. Needless to say, we were out of here!

On September 13, 2008, Hurricane Ike made landfall between Galveston and Baytown, Texas, which is practically next door to us. Port Neches received a heavy dose of damage and as a result, our shows for September, October, and November were all cancelled. In numerous towns around us such as Bridge City and Orange, relief efforts are still under way as people try to rebuild their homes, businesses, and lives. We wish our friends and neighbors a speedy recovery and they remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Before hurricane season, GCPPW hosted two back-to-back sold out events at the Port Neches National Guard Armory. We then hosted an incredible, high energy show for the first time inside of Antone's (now the Scout Bar) on historic Crockett Street in Beaumont. It would seem that the logical choice would be for us to get up and running as soon as possible to host another show and continue with the momentum we had built.

The question remained for the owners and operators of Gulf Coast Power Pro Wrestling: Would we host an event to end 2008 or wait until 2009? It was a difficult, calculated decision on our part with so much going on in our area months after Hurricane Ike's landfall. We made the unanimous decision to give thanks in November for all the blessings that truly matter to us: our families, friends, and health. We wanted to let our workers spend time reflecting and regrouping for our next endeavor.

On Saturday, December 13, 2008, Gulf Coast Power Pro Wrestling will host 'Glory & Pain 5' from the Port Neches National Guard Armory. We're proud and excited to bring our hard-hitting, old school show back to the fans that have supported us during these difficult months.

We'll announce our card soon to end this year on a high note and start preparing to make 2009 even better for you!
